World-Building: Great
Characterization: Great-Awesome
Plot: Great
Kiki's delivery service is a much more personal and small-scale tale than some of the other Miyazaki epics. The fate of the world doesn't rely on Kiki - just her own future! It's a great story that has a solid plot and realistic characters.
Kiki is a young witch who, at the age of 13, sets out to fulfill the tradition of living on her own for a year. She flies south to see the ocean and ends up staying in a bigger city. She doesn't automatically adjust, but she does find very nice people that make it easier for her. The film is really about Kiki finding herself and becoming independent. I also really liked her black cat, Jiji, who has something of an attitude, at least in the English dub that I saw. He has some great lines in the film and his voice is hilarious, especially when he's giving advice to Kiki.
I enjoyed this movie and I always have good memories of it after watching it, though I don't feel the need to re-watch it a hundred times like I do with some of the other Miyazaki classics! So, check it out, you won't be sorry!
